Posted On: 03-16-2026
The Music4Pain Research Network is pleased to announce that Ting Ting Goh has been selected as a recipient of the Music4Pain Visiting Scholars Program (VSP) award.
Ting Ting’s academic training and research focus on piano pedagogy, piano performance, and music cognition, providing a strong foundation for studying how musical engagement influences health outcomes. Her work explores the neurocognitive mechanisms underlying piano performance and the therapeutic potential of music-based interventions in healthcare and wellness contexts.
Through the Visiting Scholars Program, Ting Ting will receive specialized training in functional near-infrared spectroscopy (fNIRS) at the CONQUER Collaborative at Drexel University under the mentorship of Dr. Kambiz Pourrezaei. This training will provide hands-on experience in neuroimaging methods used to measure brain activity and investigate neural responses to music and pain.
As part of this work, she plans to develop a pilot study examining cortical activation patterns during music-based interventions for pain modulation, including how factors such as musical familiarity and spontaneous motor tempo influence pain perception. The study will generate preliminary mechanistic data to inform future research on music-based pain interventions.
The Music4Pain Visiting Scholars Program supports researchers seeking advanced training in innovative methods to study the mechanisms underlying music-based interventions for pain. We congratulate Ting Ting Goh on this award and look forward to the contributions her work will make to the field.
