NIH Grant Writing Consultation Sessions
The Music4Pain Research Network, in collaboration with three other NIH-funded music research networks, is launching an NIH Grant Writing Consultation Program to help investigators strengthen their NIH submissions. This program is exclusively for NIH grant submissions that focus on investigating mechanisms through which music-based interventions may impact pain or Alzheimer’s disease and Alzheimer’s disease related dementias (AD/ADRD).
When
We will offer 30-minute consultations two months before each NIH submission deadline:
- August–early September – for October deadlines
- First two weeks of December – for February deadlines
- First two weeks of April – for June deadlines
What We Offer
- A one-time, 30-minute consultation with a core investigative team member from one of the four NIH-funded music research networks.
- Review of your Aims Page (1 page) , plus answers to your specific grant-related questions.
Important Details
- Limited slots per cycle – first come, first served.
- We will not review full proposals, only the Aims Page.
- Each requestor will be assigned one consultant per cycle.

Grant Writing Videos
The followings webinars were organized by the Sound Health Network in collaboration with the NEA and NIH, as part of their grant writing series. The first webinar focuses on the research plan section of a grant application. The second one demonstrates a mock NIH review panel of a grant application.
NIH Music-Based Intervention Toolkit
The NIH Music-Based Intervention Toolkit is designed to support music and health researchers with practical recommendations that align with the NIH Policy on Rigor and Reproducibility.
The primary aim of this resource is to provide music and health researchers with a toolkit of recommendations to enhance the design, implementation, and reporting of music-based interventions. By promoting scientific rigor and methodological consistency, the toolkit serves as a valuable resource for advancing high-quality research in the field.
Access the toolkit here: NIH Music-Based Intervention Toolkit
We encourage researchers and collaborators working in this area to explore and utilize the toolkit as a guide for developing research practices.
