Visiting Scholars Program Awardee 2026 – Giancarlo Colloca

The Music4Pain Research Network is pleased to welcome Giancarlo Colloca, PhD Candidate at Towson University, as a 2026 Visiting Scholar.

Giancarlo’s research combines artificial intelligence, music technology, and digital health to develop innovative tools that support pain management and emotional well-being. During his training at the University of Virginia School of Medicine, under the mentorship of Dr. Patrick H. Finan, he will explore the behavioral and psychophysiological mechanisms through which active music engagement and music co-creation may influence pain.

By integrating engineering, music cognition, and clinical pain science, this experience will help advance the development of scalable, evidence-based digital therapeutics and support the design of future studies investigating AI-supported music interventions for pain management.
