Read this study by Dr. Mathieu Roy, core investigator of the Music4Pain Research Network, and his colleagues at the Roy Pain Imaging Lab (McGill University). The study examined characteristics of music important for reducing pain. They found that hypoalgesic effects were partly mediated by musical pleasantness and musical chills.
