Webinar: Neural Correlates of Music-induced Hypoalgesia

03/30/2026 | Listen Now!

Elise Desbarats is a PhD student in the Roy Pain Lab at McGill University, whose research focuses on the behavioral and neural mechanisms underlying music-induced hypoalgesia using experimental and neuroimaging methods.

In the webinar Elise presented recent work on music-induced hypoalgesia. The talk integrated behavioral findings with new fMRI data comparing music, scrambled music, and silence to examine how music modulates pain. Elise discussed how behavioral designs help disentangle emotion and distraction effects and how neuroimaging approaches can advance mechanistic understanding of music–pain interactions.
