Dr. Joke Bradt was a keynote speaker at the 2025 New Zealand Pain Society Congress. Her presentation focused on the use of music interventions in the management of chronic pain.
In her talk, Role of Music Therapy in Supporting Pain Self-Management, Dr. Bradt highlighted how music therapy can address biological, psychological, and social factors that contribute to pain. She introduced an 8-week music therapy protocol designed to help individuals develop music-based strategies for managing chronic pain. Additionally, she shared insights into the newly established Music4Pain Research Network, an NCCIH-funded initiative focused on advancing multidisciplinary research on the mechanisms of music for pain relief.
Her presentation underscored the growing recognition of music therapy as a valuable tool in pain management, offering innovative, non-pharmacological approaches to improve patients’ quality of life.
